Private by design

We never see your Google password. Your export is parsed for the transfer — credentials stay with you.

Runs in the background

Pair the MapsMover Helper extension once and close the tab — places keep saving while you do other things.

Your own browser session

Saving happens in your Chrome, signed in as you — no bots on our servers touching your account.

Nothing gets lost

Failed or skipped places are collected in a "needs attention" list with direct Maps links — retry them with one click until everything made it over.

How it works

Four steps from old account to new — the last one runs itself.

1

Export from Takeout

Download your Maps data as a ZIP from Google Takeout — the official export.

2

Upload the ZIP

MapsMover reads your saved lists and shows exactly what will be transferred.

3

Pick your lists

Choose which lists to move. Sign in to the destination account in Chrome.

4

Let it run

The helper extension saves each place in the background. Close the tab if you like.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before moving your places to a new account.

Can I transfer my Google Maps saved places to another Google account?

Yes — that is exactly what MapsMover does. Upload the Takeout export from your old account and MapsMover re-saves every list and place into your new account, keeping the same list names.

Does Google Takeout include my saved lists?

Yes. Your Takeout export contains each saved list as its own file plus your Saved Places. MapsMover reads them and recreates every list in the destination account.

Will this unsave places from my old account?

No. MapsMover only adds places to the destination account. Already-saved detection makes sure the Save button is never toggled off, so nothing is removed from either account.

What happens to places that fail to save?

Any failed or skipped place is collected in a "needs attention" list with a direct Google Maps link, so you can retry them with one click until everything has made it over.

What file do I upload?

Your Google Takeout ZIP — or a bare Saved Places.json if that is all you have. MapsMover parses it and shows you exactly which lists and places will be transferred before anything starts.

Do my places or credits expire?

Your first 50 places are free. Place credits you buy never expire, and you spend one credit per place that is successfully saved.

Is my data private?

Your export is parsed only to run the transfer, and the actual saving happens in your own browser session. Your credentials stay with you.

Which browser do I need?

Google Chrome, with the MapsMover Helper extension. You pair it once, then it re-saves each place in your signed-in Maps session.

Why not use the Google Maps API directly?

Because there is no such API. Google provides no read or write API for your saved places or lists, so there is no official endpoint we could call to move them. The Takeout export plus your own browser session is the only reliable path.

Why not do the whole transfer on your servers?

It is not possible. Google's authentication restrictions block automated server-side access to your saved places, so the saving has to happen inside your own signed-in Google session. That is exactly what the MapsMover Helper does in your browser.

Why not just use Google My Maps instead?

You can import places into Google My Maps, but My Maps is not seamlessly integrated with Google Maps and the Maps mobile apps. Relying on My Maps alone costs you a lot of everyday experience — your places do not show up natively in Maps, navigation, or Saved. MapsMover puts them back into your real Google Maps account instead.

Your places took years to collect. Moving them takes minutes.
